Geocoding is the process of converting a physical address into geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) that can be used to place markers on a map, or position the map. Geocoding is a fundamental task in location-based services, such as ride-hailing apps, navigation systems, and social media platforms. Geocoding involves matching the input address against a database of known addresses, and returning the corresponding geographic coordinates. The accuracy of geocoding depends on the quality and completeness of the address data, as well as the geocoding algorithm used. Geocoding can also be used in reverse, where geographic coordinates are converted into physical addresses, a process known as reverse geocoding.
