PIPEDA

PIPEDA stands for Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. It is a Canadian law that regulates how private sector organizations collect, use and disclose personal information in the course of commercial activities. PIPEDA applies to personal information that is collected, used or disclosed in the course of commercial activities, including personal information that is processed or stored electronically. The law requires organizations to obtain consent from individuals before collecting, using or disclosing their personal information, and to only collect, use and disclose personal information for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances. PIPEDA also requires organizations to protect personal information with appropriate safeguards, and to allow individuals to access and correct their personal information.
