Parity Data

Parity data refers to the extra bits added to a block of data to detect and correct errors that may occur during transmission or storage. Parity data is used in RAID systems, where data is distributed across multiple disks, to ensure data integrity and fault tolerance. The parity data is calculated by performing an exclusive OR (XOR) operation on the data bits, and the resulting parity bit is stored along with the data. During data retrieval, the parity data is used to check for errors and correct them if necessary. Parity data can be either even or odd, depending on the number of 1s in the data block. If the number of 1s is even, the parity bit is set to 0, and if it is odd, the parity bit is set to 1.
