Non-volatile refers to a type of memory that retains its stored data even when the power is turned off. In contrast, volatile memory requires a constant power source to maintain its stored data. Non-volatile memory is commonly used in data storage devices such as hard drives, solid-state drives, and flash drives. Non-volatile memory is also used in embedded systems and other applications where data must be retained even in the event of a power loss. Non-volatile memory technologies include NAND and NOR flash memory, magnetic storage devices such as hard disk drives, and various types of ROM (read-only memory).
