Intrusion Detection System
An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a security technology that monitors network traffic or system events for malicious activity or policy violations. IDS can be classified into two types: signature-based and anomaly-based. Signature-based IDS compares network traffic or system events against a database of known attack patterns, while anomaly-based IDS establishes a baseline of normal activity and alerts when deviations occur. IDS can be deployed as a network-based or host-based solution. Network-based IDS monitors network traffic and can detect attacks that target multiple hosts, while host-based IDS monitors system events on a single host and can detect attacks that target a specific host. IDS can be used in conjunction with other security technologies, such as firewalls and antivirus software, to provide a layered defense against cyber threats.
