Signature-based IDS

Signature-based IDS (Intrusion Detection System) is a type of security system that identifies malicious activities by comparing them to a database of known attack signatures. The system analyzes network traffic or system logs to detect patterns that match with known attack signatures. When a match is found, the system generates an alert to notify security personnel about the potential intrusion. Signature-based IDS is effective in detecting known attacks and can provide a quick response to prevent further damage. However, it has limitations in detecting new or unknown attacks that do not match with the existing signatures in the database.
