Variable-length Encoding
Variable-length encoding is a data compression technique that assigns shorter codes to more frequently occurring data values and longer codes to less frequently occurring data values. This technique is used to reduce the amount of storage space required to store data. In variable-length encoding, the length of the code assigned to a data value is not fixed, but varies depending on the frequency of occurrence of the data value. This means that frequently occurring data values are assigned shorter codes, which reduces the overall length of the encoded data. Variable-length encoding is commonly used in data compression algorithms such as Huffman coding and Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) compression.
