Random Variables

In data science and statistics, a random variable is a variable whose value is subject to variations due to chance. It is a numerical description of the outcome of a statistical experiment. Random variables can be discrete or continuous. Discrete random variables take on a countable number of distinct values, while continuous random variables can take on any value within a range. Random variables are used to model and analyze real-world phenomena, such as the distribution of heights or weights in a population, or the number of customers who visit a store in a day. They are also used in machine learning algorithms, where they represent features or inputs that are subject to variation. In artificial intelligence, random variables are used in probabilistic graphical models to represent uncertainty and make predictions based on incomplete or noisy data.
