OpenMP
OpenMP (Open Multi-Processing) is an application programming interface (API) that supports multi-platform shared memory multiprocessing programming in C, C++, and Fortran on most platforms, instruction set architectures and operating systems, including Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Linux, macOS, and Windows. It consists of a set of compiler directives, library routines, and environment variables that influence run-time behavior. OpenMP uses a fork-join model of parallelism, where a team of threads executes a set of parallel regions in parallel. Each parallel region is defined by a parallel construct that creates a team of threads and a work-sharing construct that divides the work among the threads. OpenMP is commonly used in scientific computing, engineering, and financial applications to speed up the execution of computationally intensive tasks on shared-memory architectures.
