MapReduce
MapReduce is a programming model and an associated implementation for processing and generating large data sets. It is designed to scale up from single servers to thousands of machines, each offering local computation and storage. The model is based on the functional programming concept of map and reduce, where map applies a function to each element in a list and reduce applies a function to the result of all the map operations. In the context of data science and artificial intelligence, MapReduce is often used for distributed processing of large datasets, such as in machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, and image processing.
