Pure functions are functions that have no side effects and always return the same output for a given input. This makes them easier to reason about and test. Functional programming also encourages immutability, meaning that once a value is assigned, it cannot be changed. This reduces the risk of unexpected changes to data and makes programs more predictable. Functional programming languages include Haskell, Lisp, and Clojure, but many other languages, such as Python and JavaScript, also support functional programming concepts.
