Electrodes
In the context of data science and artificial intelligence, electrodes are sensors that are used to measure electrical signals generated by the brain. Electrodes are commonly used in electroencephalography (EEG) and electrocorticography (ECoG) to record brain activity. EEG measures electrical activity on the scalp, while ECoG measures electrical activity directly from the surface of the brain. Electrodes are also used in deep brain stimulation (DBS), a surgical procedure that involves implanting electrodes in the brain to treat movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease. In DBS, the electrodes deliver electrical impulses to specific areas of the brain to help control abnormal movements. Electrodes are an important tool in neuroscience research, as they allow scientists to study brain activity and understand how different regions of the brain are involved in various cognitive processes.
