Google File System

Google File System (GFS) is a distributed file system developed by Google to provide efficient, reliable, and scalable access to large amounts of data. It is designed to run on commodity hardware and can handle petabytes of data with high fault tolerance. GFS is based on a master-slave architecture, where a single master node manages the file system namespace and coordinates the activities of multiple chunk servers that store the actual data. The data is divided into fixed-size chunks and replicated across multiple chunk servers to ensure data availability and reliability. GFS also provides features such as atomic file operations, snapshotting, and automatic data rebalancing. GFS has been used extensively within Google for various applications, including Google Search, Google Maps, and Gmail.
